Common sense should prevail when choosing a pot for a "finished" tree. When viewing a bonsai for the first time, if one notices the pot before the tree is seen, there is a lack of harmony.
Matching tree to a suitable pot The bonsai style, the colours of the tree, the size of the tree and the texture of the leaves all need to be considered before choosing a pot.
To me a slab works best when doing a mountainous scene and a pot when doing the normal lowland forest type planting. This is, however, a matter of personal taste. There are few benefits in choosing a pot over a slab.
