Yamadori/Collected Trees on Ebay
As someone who regularly collects trees (yamadori) for bonsai, I have been shocked at some of the 'yamadori' that has been offered on Ebay recently and the some of the prices paid for these trees.
Collected trees will be dealt with in advance design.
When you shorten a tree you have to select a new apex, or a branch to train as a leader to form the new apex. The cut should be in such a way which would not be clearly visible from the front.

You can store the purchased or collected tree seeds in a plastic bag without moist element. A humidity rate of maximum 6% is important for seed preservation and excess moisture will make the seeds rot.
*There are occasions when an outdoor tree needs regular misting but this is limited to specific cases such as yamadori/collected trees and healthy trees that have had recent major work carried out.
I know many beginners search out their local nurseries for material to use for bonsai. In most cases the roughest looking stock will be used because of the similarties to collected trees.

Some artists tightly pinch their branches into solid pads, especially on larger collected trees. The solid pad de-emphasizes the coarse frond, and the collected trunk thus steals the show.
