Overview : The Cotoneaster is a hardy, easy-to-grow plant, whose small, attractive leaves and flowers make it an excellent candidate for bonsai cultivation.

Cotoneaster - (Cotoneaster spp.) is the common hedge plant in this area. It is inexpensive to purchase, especially in the spring when it is available bare-root. It's easy to bonsai, with flexible stems, ease in pruning and compact growth.

Cotoneaster, maple, yew, juniper, and apple or crab apple are all suitable as outdoor trees, and for indoors consider a fig, or Schefflera.

Cotoneaster is another favourite. The dark green glossy leaves contrast with the spring flowers and bright red, orange or yellow berries of the autumn. It can be trained into almost any style.

Try Larch, Scots Pine and varieties, Yew or Junipers for starters - naturally small leafed plants like - Cotoneaster Lonicera, if you don't overfeed them, then the leaves won't suddenly enlarge to an unrealistic scale.

Another interesting plant that is grafted is the Weeping Cotoneaster. In this case the seedling that is grown to serve as the rootstock is Paul's Scarlet Hawthorn, and Cotoneaster Apiculata is grafted onto the Hawthorn rootstock at a height of 5'.

For flowering Bonsai, Apple, Cherry, Cotoneaster,Pyracantha, Japanese Quince and Azalea are best.
Always consider native (to you) species and just because a tree is not mentioned in this list you should not assume it will not make a good bonsai.

I have been looking on Google for ages and haven't found any image or website with any thing to do with my bonsai. I do know that it is a Cotoneaster but i don't know what type of Cotoneaster it is. I have put an image on underneath.

Some plants that propagate easily from cuttings are olive, willow, cotoneaster, firethorn, azalea, and boxwood. Plants can also be propagated by layering and grafting, but these methods are not recommended for the beginner.

If a tree should have been used, it should have movement toward the Cotoneaster at the right.
