Description: Firethorn is a large, evergreen shrub that is cherished for its spectacular fall and winter display of scarlet fruits and ability to withstand dry and droughty conditions. Firethorn typically grows into a tangled mound up to 3 m by 3.

 


Firethorn (Pyracantha) is a genus of thorny evergreen large shrubs in the family Rosaceae, subfamily Maloideae.

Bonsai tree Firethorn seeds are a good option when considering growing bonsai from seed. Germination is not too difficult and instructions are always included.

PYRACANTHA species/ FIRETHORNS
Pyracantha is a genus of about 7 species of spiny, evergreen shrubs that have a spreading to erect habit.

Many other plants, such as cotoneaster , natal plum (Carissa gandiflora), firethorn (Pyracantha sp.), fuchsia , and juniper can be used, depending on availability and difficulty of winter care.

Natural wastage some trees such as Pyracantha/Firethorn and Ulmus/Elms will develop new growth from leaf axils and will then naturally discard the now redundant leaf. Check to see if new growth is appearing from the point of leaf loss.

Some plants that propagate easily from cuttings are olive, willow, cotoneaster, firethorn, azalea, and boxwood. Plants can also be propagated by layering and grafting, but these methods are not recommended for the beginner.

They include Satsuki Azalea, Cotoneaster, Winter Jasmine, Crab Apple, Flowering Cherry, Wisteria, Serissa, Firethorn, Deciduous Holly, Quince, White and Red Hawthorn, Japanese Flowering Apricot and Pomegranate.
