Bonsai Lillipilli "Hot Flush"
This is an Aussie native LilliPilli (Acmena Smithii Var: 'Hot Flush') I purchased from a normal garden nursery. Photo 1. I particularly liked the leaves on it and it had an 'interesting' lower trunk. Photo 2.

 


Making a flush cut with a saw will cause a mound that will spoil the trunk line.
If you do not own a pair of wen cutters, use a saw but hollow out the cut with a knife or chisel, being careful to cut away from you.

The second flush of growth will emerge from many points but each new shoot will be much shorter creating much more dense growth. Allow these shoots to extend only pruning back any unwanted individual shoots that grow much stronger than the others.

Make sure it is flush with what will be the top of the bench and attach it to the bench as follows. First put one screw into each end of the 2 x 4. Next, put in 3 screws through the 2 x 4 into each leg.

Remember, make all cuts above a bud, a side branch, or a main fork of the tree. Remove all buds except those on the outside of the trunk to force growth outward and upward. Leave stubs flush with the stems.
