In the growing season (Spring), you may see reddening of the foliage around the top of your foliage crowns. Do not be alarmed, this is quite common if sun exposure is high.

 


During the growing season pinching off growing tips should not be neglected- otherwise, whether seedlings or old dwarfs, the trees will be unsightly in form and disproportionately long branches will be produced.

Some species just don't grow a lot of roots in one growing season, but you will have to at least familiarize yourself with each species of tree you have by taking the tree out of its pot and looking for yourself to see what it's doing.

All shoots should be allowed to grow throughout the growing season. In autumn all the current seasons growth is removed, leaving only the previous years needles. This will cause the tree to produce buds at branch tips and sometimes even on old wood.
