Hybrid

Bonsai HumusIchii

Hybrids are common in the genus, including many between the subgenera; very often these hybrids are apomictic (self-fertile without pollination), so able to reproduce clonally from seed without any variation.

Hybridizers outside Japan also produce excellent new varieties which are satsuki by the definition above, vegetative growth before flowering, but which neither have Japanese names nor registry, such as "Nuccio's Lucky Charm" and "May Showers".

Hybrid - A hybrid is a blending of two different species, usually breeding desirable traits into the new plant. When different species within a family or different families produce offspring, the new plants are called hybrids.

- The Hybrid cutter is exactly what the name suggests. a mix of the other two types. For most, this is the obvious choice to buy as it performs both functions in one.

LANTANA HYBRIDS. Flower for up to 9 months of the year. They come in a very wide range of colours. The clincher for me is the more you cut back the shoots that have flowered the more repeat flowering you get! ...

Bonsai are ordinary trees or plants, not special hybrid dwarfs. Small leafed varieties are most suitable, but essentially any plant can be used, regardless of the size it grows to in the wild.

In all, you would find over 8,000 hybrid and cultivars of Fuchsia with many of those making great choices for bonsai.

One of the best varieties of bonsai is the Juniperus X, which is a very popular natural hybrid species in Japan. This tree loves medium climate as too cold or too hot inhibits its development and even kill it.

It has over 300 known hybrids, many of which are available commercially not only in Japan, Korea and China where the tree is native to, but also in many other parts of the world.

In order to promote this type of tree with people who are not so proficient with the bonsai art, the bonsai tree nursery has a number of special hybrid plants which literally grow on their own.

Germination is erratic, from a few days to several weeks. Hybrids or cultivars very seldom come true from seed, you will have many variations of the parent plant, some completely different.

The flowers can be white, pink or red, and can grow singly or in pairs. Satsuki azalea originated in Japan and are more dwarf than other hybrid groups. Satsuki means "fifth month" and these hybrids are late bloomers.

When well settled in containers they are very lovely, though not comparable in gorgeousness, and size of bloom to the modern hybrids.

Plants in the same genus are closely related and may interbreed with each other. If they do the resulting plant is a hybrid, identified by an X in the name. For example: All maples are in the same Genus: Acer.

Typically, a tree grown from seed will take a further 4 or 5 years of vigorous growth to achieve a trunk just an 1" across. There are also many species of trees that readily cross pollinate and their seed will nearly always produce hybridized plants ...
