Ikebana (ç"Ÿã'花, Ikebana? "arranged flower"),[1] is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, also known as kadō (華é", kadō? the "way of flowers").

 


Ikebana: Ikebana (Japanese: literally "living flowers") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The arrangements follow strict rules for representing heaven, earth, and people.

Ikebana containers do not have holes in them, containers for bonsai do.
Before you water a plant indoors make sure the hole is either plugged or you have moved it from your favorite table.

However, my eyes were opened to other Japanese culture and I began to study the Shofu School of Ikebana. Before I left Japan I was awarded a Master's teaching certificate, but have never used it.

Particularly, plants having properties to be fossilized in their natural condition are referred to as being in sekkasho (fossilization). This is seen in trees and plants and used in ikebana flower arrangements and potted bonsai.

Seikouen is also home to Saika Bonsai, ran by friendly Kaori Yamada. Saika is flower arranging with rooted plants, sort of a crossover between Bonsai and Ikebana; very interesting to see.
