THE KNOB CUTTER
This tool sometimes called the melon ball cutter has several unique capabilities. It is a valuable addition to the bonsai tool kit even though it is used much less frequently than concave pruners or bud scissors.
The Knob cutter (Kobu Kiri Hasami) - leaves an almost spherical cut on the branch thereby allowing it to heal flush with the surface.
KNOB CUTTERS: these are very similar to the concave cutters listed above, except that have a spherical head, which allows you to cut branches and leave a small hollowed out scar. Very useful, but not as important as a good set of concave cutters.

Spherical Knob Cutter
As its name implies, this bonsai tool strips knobs from the trunk and roots of your bonsai tree.
- Spherical Knob Cutter #1445. Made in China. Designed to remove trunk knobs and roots. The head is shaped like a ball, hence the name "spherical." It produces a hollow, circular cut that heals quickly with a minimum of scarring. 7" long. $16.95.

Make flat cuts only ... leave concave branch cutters and spherical knob cutters in your tool box! As an added precaution, leave a small stub just above the segment you want to keep. Never use cut paste.
