Leaf drop

Leaf drop or abscission involves complex physiological signals and changes within plants. The process of photosynthesis steadily degrades the supply of chlorophylls in foliage; plants normally replenish chlorophylls during the summer months.

Leaf drop Phyllanthus will drop many of its inner leaves in the dormant season, or in the fall period. These inner leaves turn yellow, and quickly fall off.

Leaf drop I receive a lot of e-mail, from people who are worried that their tree is unwell, as "some of the leaves are turning yellow and dropping off".

The leaf drop may appear heavy but serious injury to a healthy tree is rare. Gall mites stimulate the formation of growths or galls on the leaves. The galls are small but can be so numerous that individual leaves curl up.

Now, you may notice some minor leaf drop if the temperatures are too cool for the tree or if the ficus is getting too much of a draft. In this case, you can simply choose a different location, again in the sun but warmer and without the draft.

Some leaf drop may occur if the temperatures are too cool or if your Ficus bonsai is placed in a cold drafty environment, such as a location close to an outside door.

The flowers and leaf buds appear at the node where last year's leaf dropped. Flower buds are rounded, while leaf buds are pointed.

Deciduous plants repotted a few weeks before leaf drop will become partly established in the new pot and soil before winter sets in. You need about six to eight weeks of warm daytime temperatures to achieve this for minor root work and repotting.

Watering daily in the hottest part of the year is very important since missing a day may cause leaf drop and twigs to die back. In nature, yaupons grow along stream and river margins as well as in more arid regions such as sand dunes.

For starters, it decided that right after I potted it, it was going to do a total leaf drop. After doing some reading, and finding out that Salix like water, I placed mine in a tray of water. Sure the buds swelled, but no leaves.

Wilted or discolored leaves, leaf spots, dying branches and premature leaf drop are just a few of the common symptoms of plant stress. Unfortunately, plant problems are not always clear-cut and easy to diagnose.

Aphids infest maples and may be numerous at times. High populations can cause leaf drop. Another sign of heavy aphid infestation is honey dew on lower leaves and objects beneath the tree. Aphids are controlled by spraying.

Symptoms of herbicide damage: growth suppression, distorted leaves and shoots, chlorosis or bleaching, browning, leaf drop, dieback.... Very sensitive plants include: Siberian elm, willow, hackberry, grapevine, boxelder and redbud.
