Moving, lifting, and placing a tree has everything to do with reverence. I don't often yell, but I will be very direct with a student that treats a tree like a box of wire, or shoves it across a table like a dirty dinner-plate.

 


After gently lifting the rootball out of the pot, the roots could be examined.

After all the lifting, turning over, and pulverizing the soil, we add a big block of peat moss and sand for good water retention, high air capacity, and good drainage.

I like to check for dryness by lifting the pot. It takes some experience to develop the 'feel' of a dry bonsai, but it works quite well. It is amazing how much an adequate amount of water will increase the weight of the pot.

You can try lifting if it needs watering is usually will feel much lighter.
You may also be able to determine if the soil is dry just by pressing your palm on it. If it feels damp to the touch then it does not need to be watered.

If the trunk is of fairly small caliper, bend it in the direction you wish it to go using both hands, one near the base of the trunk (to keep from lifting it out of the pot), and the other up the trunk where you wish to begin the bend.

Crimes classified as intellectual include fraud, embezzlement, counterfeiting, forgery, bribery, and breach of trust.

It is no surprise to those in the know that these individuals are quickly lifting the bonsai into the realm of fine art.

With that, you can add or remove soil as needed without lifting the tree out of the pot or uprooting it. This particular type of container can accommodate a tree up to 10-feet. Remember, bonsai fruit trees are not always small, although they can be.

Let the pot absorb water for a few minutes, then carefully remove by lifting by the pot, never by the tree.

However, be forewarned: friends, kids and other family members will quickly tire of hauling, lifting and helping repot your huge masterpiece. These bonsai are often categorized as "two-man" and "three-man" trees for good reason! ...

This book does have some of those, but it mainly refers to the natural upbringing of the bonsai from seed or seedling,and starting the training with the plan of years before something is finally accomplished. For many though, this is a very uplifting ...
