Saba miki
One of the "dead wood" techniques. The intention is to give the tree an old and lightning damaged look. Most seen on conifers. Sabamiki is the denomination for hollow trunks. (See also Jin, Shari).

A good Bonsai has a triangular shape, with a front designed for primary viewing, but looks good from all angles.
Remember this: "Ichi-miki, Ni-eda, San-nebari" - First the trunk, secondly the branches, and thirdly the roots.
