Osmosis

In order for osmosis to occur, there needs to be a higher concentration of salts and minerals in the roots than the soil; water will seek out higher concentrations.

Water is absorbed from the compost into the roots by a process known as osmosis, the water is then pulled up the body of the plant and is released into the atmosphere through the foliage.

Fertilizer 'burn' is a chemical phenomenon which can be described as backward osmosis. Fertilizers are salts, and in solution they have a salt 'value' or concentration.

The fine root hairs greatly increase the surface area exposed to the water in the soil, making it easier for the water to enter the roots through the fine membrane by osmosis.

My trees are watered once a day with reverse osmosis water. This is water that has no salts, or minerals in it, and is the equivalent of distilled or rain water.

Some members have had good results using reverse osmosis (R.O.) system water. Whatever kind is used, apply thoroughly so that run-off comes out of the drainage holes.

Water maples and other plants bearing thin-edged leaves with distilled or reverse-osmosis (RO) water. Remember to fertilize half-strength regularly.

I now look from my living room, through the glass door wall to view my bonsai collection. State of the art glass, heat reduction, motorized vents, screens, reverse osmosis water, hot water heat etc. ... it's like a Burger King but with bonsai!" ...

By using enzymes the plant slowly turns the insoluble starch back into sugar or glucose, which is then dissolved and passes into the phloem to be moved throughout the plant by osmosis (the loss of water molecules from the leaves of a plant, ...

This causes water to move into the sieve-tube element by osmosis, creating pressure that pushes the sap down the tube. In sugar sinks, cells actively transport solutes out of the sieve-tube elements, producing the exactly opposite effect.

osmosis, which is a vital process. Air also prevents possible root rot
conditions, from soil saturation, by assisting in water evaporation.
