Phosphorous: An essential element of bonsai nutrition and identified by the chemical symbol P. It encourages root development and also ripening of fruit and seeds.

Fertilizer - is "food" for trees, shrubs and plants; usually comprised of NPK: Nitrogen for the foliage, Phosphorous for the roots, and Potassium for the flowers.

The three basic elements of any fertilizer are Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K), with each element serving different purposes.

The most serious loss concerns three elements; nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. These are known as the major plant nutrients and are required in relatively large amounts if plants are to grow satisfactorily.

For example, 12-12-12 is a typical garden garden fertilizer that would contain 12% nitrogen, 12%phosphorous, and 12% potassium.

This is soap and phosphorous solution intended to specifically kill Spider mites and their eggs (as well as most other common pests) with just one spraying. Repeat after 10 days as a precaution in case you missed any the first time.

From the Air it gets Oxygen, Carbon, and some water and from the soil it gets Nitrogen, Potassium and Phosphorous called primary nutrients (NPK) and a host of other trace element, called micro nutrients, like magnesium, iron, zinc and copper.

What do high nitrogen fertilizers do? I know high phosphorous ferts help in fruiting and flowering. What else do they help in. What is the Potassium used for? Would using only a very high Nitrogen fert during the growing season help.

One type of fertilizer usually only obtainable from bonsai nurseries has an NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium) ratio of 0:10:10.

Ingredients like Vitamin C and E and mineral like phosphorous and calcium included in the compound make it more potent source of anti aging skin.

(N) Some enthusiasts use a fertilizer with no nitrogen that is not strictly necessary. Any fruiting or flowering fertilizer that has a high phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) content is very food.
