The leaves will scorch, wilt and die. Also, if by chance your Maple becomes infected and you turn to insecticide, test on a small area of a leaf first before spraying the whole tree. The leaves often burn from insecticide.

The stump is gently scorched with a naked flame to burn off all the fibres. It is very important at this point to protect the rest of the tree, in particular the foliage, from not only the flame but also the heat that it generates.

Scorching - Damage caused to foliage by the action of strong sun or wind. Also, damage to roots that can be caused by an overdose of fertilizer.
Species - The unit of classification for a plant having particular characteristics.

POSITION Beech will grow happily in semi-shade or full sun; they do however require a position sheltered from the strong midday sun of the summer and from strong winds, both of which can cause leaves to scorch and brown.

The sun radiates through glass and that could scorch the leaves and in extreme cases eventually killing the tree. In the winter you should also keep trees a minimum of twelve inches from windows.

It is, therefore, incapable of burning leaves..........In addition, 1/4oz of water absorbs approx. 540 calories of heat when it evaporates , it is clear that instead of scorching leaves, water helps lower temperature (of the leaf surface)".
