The bulk of the trunk leans out of the pot almost looking like it would fall over, as in a tree over hanging a river.

The semi-cascade style, just like the cascade style, is found in nature on cliffs and on the banks of rivers and lakes. The trunk grows upright for a small distance and then bends downward.

SEMI CASCADE or HAN-KENGAI design
This design can be very simple but very rewarding and you need to be creative to succeed, as this classification refers to the cascading area.

5. Semi Cascade - In this style, the image of a tree that grows out of cliffs or mountain ridges. Trees in this style have trunks that grow sideways, almost horizontally, with the apex at the same level or slightly above the container.

In the wild, this tree was growing like a semi cascade with this side growing close to the ground as a result this side did not have any branches growing on it.
In this view we can notice a very abrupt taper.

Other types of bonsai trees style are the cascade and the semi cascade. The cascade types of bonsai trees are those that have a sloping effect.

You will need to know the basic styles that will best be suited for your particular tree such as Upright, Informal upright, Slanting, Cascade, and Semi Cascade.

When grown in an informal upright (or informal semi cascade), root over rock style, it has great potential to create an exquisite specimen. I chose it for this reason and that I have never seen any one else use this plant.

One gallon size plants are still flexible enough to be bent downward into a cascade or semi cascade with little difficulty with traditional wiring techniques. Five gallon stock with one to two inch trunks calls for the big guns.
