Shohin Bonsai
Shohin are the next step up in size classification to Mame and Shito bonsai.

 


Shito Bonsai - Finger Bonsai, grown in small pots no bigger than an eggcup. Less than 50mm high
Mame or Shohin Bonsai - No more than 150mm high
Ko Bonsai - Not more than 300mm high ...

Shito Bonsai (very small) - Up to 3 inch (7.5 cm) in height
Mame Bonsai (mini) - Up to 6 inch (15 cm) in height
Shohin Bonsai (small) - Up to 8 inch (20 cm) in height
Kifu Sho Bonsai (medium) - Up to 16 inch (40.5 cm) in height ...

There are a number of specific techniques and styles associated with mame and shito sizes, the smallest bonsai.

At the other end of the size spectrum, there are a number of specific techniques and styles associated solely with the smallest sizes, mame and shito.

They range from 4 inches for a stout plant up to 10 inches for the Literati or Bunjinji style (See below). Finally there is the "Shito" bonsai which are the smallest category. They typically measure 2 inches high and are a great challenge to grow.
