Pines, the inhabitants of the poor, dry, sandy soils, become weakened or die off if the drainage is poor in the containers. But as pines are vigorous in their nature, the repotting is only necessary once in every three or four years.
Prepare the Bonsai Potting Medium - make sure that your have sieved your Bonsai Soils so that you have removed all the fine dust from the growing medium, ensure that your particles are between 3-6mm for small pots and between 6mm-10mm for larger pots.
Soils consisting of very coarse grains will drain rapidly and retain very little water.

Fertilizers in a water solution are applied to already damp soil, and those in dry, pellet form are added to dry soils before watering. Apply fertilizer in liquid form once or twice in the early spring before transplanting time.
