The terminal buds have continued to grow into new shoots each time they formed with little delay. This will often give you three or four internodes in a single season.

Terminal branches and lateral branches. Each branch has one terminal bud at the very end, and many lateral branches along the sides. The terminal buds grow in an outward direction away from the plant.

the end of a shoot is called apical bud, terminal bud, or end bud. That

They tend to be associated with indoor trees, as they prefer a warm dry climate. Your local garden store should have something for them to drink (terminally).

Pinching terminal buds on a branch will force side branches to grow. Leave on buds that point in the direction you want a branch to grow, removing all others, particularly those on the underneath side of a branch.
