Twin Trunk Forms In the twin-trunk form, two upright trunks emerge from the same roots and divide into two trunks at the base. Both trunks (trees) should exhibit similar shapes and characteristics having grown together in the same environment.

This fig tree, a Ficus microcarpa twin trunk in the banyan style, is in the bonsai collection of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens of the University of Michigan. The common name of this species is Chinese Banyan.
The branches are cut back. I think I will develop the tree as a twin trunk so the small branch at the base is left. We are left with the lower half of the tree. This is the piece we were after in the first place our top section is a bonus.
