When several companies market a similar product, it is important that the brand name be clearly seen on the packaging and easily recognizable. Competing manufacturers invest a lot of money and effort into making their brand name into a household name.

Brand name: A term, symbol, design or combination thereof that iden­tifies and differentiates a seller's products or service.

A specification that cites a brand name, model name, model number or some other designation that identifies a specific product as an example of the desired quality of merchandise.
