Commodity value is an important consideration in hedging against inflation.

 


A small fraction of the currency supply is made up of the various types of coin, none of which has a commodity value equal to its face value.

The recent fallout in commodity values has reminded those who had forgotten that, as the Financial Spread Betting adverts always tell us, 'Prices may fall. Past performance gives no guarantee of future returns and so on'.

The other three are durability, transportablity, and non-counterfeitability. This characteristic means that the item used as money can be easily divided into small increments so that it can match commodity values more precisely.

The division into "value in use" and "value in exchange" makes a clear distinction between what would now be called "value" and "price" or "capital value" and "commodity value", in constrast to the denial of intrinsic values separate from prices in, ...
