Contract chicanery is the practice of lenders and brokers to slip disadvantageous provisions to the borrowers in the mortgage contract without bringing them to the borrowers' attention.

Contracts may be enforceable by law or they may not. The example of the agreement between the parent and child would not be enforceable by law whereas the agreement for a loan likely would be enforceable by law.

Any contract that grants the holder residual interest in the assets of an entity after deducting all of its liabilities. Equity instruments have no fixed requirements for payment of dividends or repayment of capital, unlike a financial liability.

The contract issuer assumes the risk that you could outlive your life expectancy and therefore collect income over a longer period than it anticipated. You take the risk that the insurance company will be able to meet its obligations to pay.

CONTRACTUAL PLAN A program in which a legal vehicle (plan company or participating unit investment trust) agrees to invest a fixed amount in a fund at regular intervals for 10 or 15 years.
