House Rules
Securities industry term for an individual brokerage firm's internal rules, policies and procedures regarding the opening and management of clients' accounts and the clients' activities in such accounts.

Margin accounts are governed by Regulation T , by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), by the New York Stock Exchange, and by individual brokerage house rules. Margin requirements can be met with cash or with eligible securities.

Term applied to the initial deposit of margin money required of clearing member firms by clearinghouse rules, or to the initial margin deposit required of customers by exchange regulations.
