Merit good
A good (or service) which some "outside analyst" considers to be intrinsically desirable, uplifting or socially valuable for other people to consume, independently of the actual desires or preferences of the consumer himself.

 


Merit good A good that has been deemed socially desirable via the political process. Museums would be an example.
Microeconomics The study of decision making undertaken by individuals (or households) and by firms.

Merit good - Goods that are held to be desirable for consumers, but are underprovided by the market.
Message - The information or instructions being passed by the sender to the receiver.

Demerit Good Definition
A demerit good is defined as a good which can harm or damage the consumer of the good. It is a good with negative utility or at least lower utility than consumer believes.

MERIT GOOD: A good that society, usually government, deems is undervalued by consumers in normal market exchanges.
