PRICE LEADERSHIP: A method used by a group of firms in the same market (typically oligopoly firms) in which one firm takes the lead in setting or changing prices, with other firms then following behind.
Dominant firm price leadership - When firms (the followers) choose the same price as that set by the dominant firm in the industry (the leader).
Dominant price leader - The leading firm in an industry which is the first to change prices.
Low cost and low-price leadership has been the modus operandi since day 1 with this company. I liked that the Chairman, S. Robson Walton referred numerous times in his one page letter to his "Dad", the late founder, Sam Walton.
Examples of Stackelberg leadership include markets where one dominant firm dictates the terms, usually through price leadership. Under price leadership, the leader firm's pricing decisions are consistently followed by rival firms.
