Secured Note. A note for which either real or personal property has been pledged or mortgaged.

 


Secured Note: A standard contractual obligation to lend and borrow money at a specified rate of interest. Secured notes can be modified with additional restrictions that increase their value and decrease the default risk.

An unsecured Note or Bond.
Example: Abel invests in debentures of the XYZ Corporation; Baker invests in a First Mortgage on a building owned by XYZ Corporation. The XYZ Corporation Bankrupts.

A revenue sharing note is structured as an unsecured note to pay back the principal over a period of months or years. Like other debt offerings, the revenue sharing note positions the investor as a creditor rather than as a shareholder.

COLLATERAL NOTE - is a note secured by collateral. Same as secured note.
COLLATERAL RECEIPT - See warehouse receipt.
COLLATERAL SECURITY - Additional or supporting security given in addition to the principal security.

Court process to prove a valid will. A written unsecured note promising to pay a specified amount of money on demand, transferable to a third party.
