wildcat strike

An unauthorized work stoppage while a labor contract is still in effect.

controlled wildcat drilling
drilling for oil and gas in an area adjacent to but outside the limits of a proven field. Also known as a field extension.

Wildcatting - A policy instituted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that calls for the review of an entire industry whenever critical problems (such as accounting fraud) are found within one or two companies in the industry.

WILDCATTING " Drilling for oil or gas in an unproven are (vs. Developmental Program). Also called Exploratory Drilling.

WILDCAT STRIKE: An unofficial and usually spontaneous strike or work stoppage by union members. A wildcat strike is not authorized by the labor union representing the workers.

Wildcat Banking
The banking industry in parts of the United States from 1837 to 1865, when banks were established in remote and inaccessible locations. During this period, banks were chartered by state law without any federal oversight.

They were also named "Wildcat Banks". They were made among the big U.S.

The high-risk/high-potential of certain categories of these ventures (commonly referred to as "wildcats") drove investment for many years. There are many such opportunities available today.

In many Western states it degenerated into “wildcat" banking because of the laxity and abuse of state laws. Bank notes were issued against little or no security, and credit was overexpanded; depressions brought waves of bank failures.

Exploratory drilling: The drilling of oil or gas wells in an area without known production. Exploratory wells are also called "wildcat" wells.
