Over the past few years, I've owned a lot of vehicles and many SUVs, so my review comes from owning a BMW X5, Audi Q7, Range Rover Sport and LR3, Tahoe, Lexus Rx330 and GX. All in all, it's a great SUV.

Despite the Volkswagen badge, underneath its butch exterior the Touareg is closely related to the upmarket Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.
Only the US does not see VW as a premium brand. Compare the Touareg to the equivalent Audi Q7 ( which will be based on the old platform for a bit longer) or Cayenne and the Touareg looks like good value.
With an awesome 450bhp and a faintly ridiculous 165 mph speed potential, the top-of-the-range Cayenne Turbo can show a clean (or muddy) set of tailpipes to any other SUV, new Audi Q7 V8, BMW X5s, ...
