The Audi R8 is the German automaker's current top of the line model based on the Le Mans Quattro concept car.

The Audi R8 sports car, launched in early 2007, is based heavily on the Gallardo, but uses a V8 in place of the Gallardo's V10 to avoid competing directly with the Gallardo.

Kinda like the Audi R8, I need to keep being reminded that this car even exists.

But the Audi R8 and now the TechArt proves that safe doesn’t always have to equal dull.

This is the same engine that will power the new Audi R8, the German company's exotic mid-engined coupe, but this is the first time the engine has been used in an Audi.

FSI petrol direct injection, a principle that has proved its worth in the most successful racing car ever built, the Le Mans winning Audi R8, plays an instrumental role in this model's refined flow of power.

Overall a great car. I would love to get my hands on an Audi RS4 or Audi R8 and see what they can do if this car is any indication!

It genuinely feels fast. We're not talking Audi R8 fast here, but pretty quick nonetheless. No doubt the six-speed manual model is even more fun.

Among them, are the Audi R8 Spyder, Maserati's GranTurismo, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and Aston Martin's V8 Vantage. If we were including hard tops, we would also toss in the Nissan GT-R, and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009.

Another mentioned having recently purchased an Audi R8, but being unable to sell his older 911 because of the sheer joy of driving the car, even if it isn't quite as fast.

If you're tempted, we'd suggest also test driving the Audi R8 and BMW M3.
