The BMW 328i has spent three months with us, and by this point we've already driven it across the country, sent it to a racetrack, and made a fair number of trips to the grocery store.
BMW 328i models come with BMW's trademark 3.0-liter straight six, and we found it's more than powerful enough for brisk acceleration and a sinfully good time.
The BMW 328i Convertible has a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine making 230 horsepower and 200 lb.-ft. torque at a low 2,750 rpm. The more expensive BMW 335i Convertible receives a direct injection twin turbo 3.
The BMW 328i ($32,400) and 328xi ($34,300) sedans are powered by a 225-hp 3.0-liter six. This high-tech engine is the first in mass production with a magnesium alloy engine block, to trim weight.

Both the BMW 328i and 328i xDrive feature a 3.0-liter I6 engine that test drivers find is smooth and adequate. It generates 230-horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 200 pound-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm.

The base 2010 BMW 328i model is hardly a slouch, sprinting from rest to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds with the manual (6.8 seconds with the six-speed automatic). But that's to be expected.
Major competitors for the 2011 E-Class Cab are BMW's (2010 model year) 230-hp BMW 328i Cabriolet ($56,800), 300-hp 335i Cabriolet ($68,400), and 414-hp M3 Cabriolet ($81,900); and Audi's 211-hp Audi A5 Cabriolet ($56,300) and 333-hp S5 Cabriolet ($68, ...
8-liter inline six in the BMW 328I and 25 more than the 2.8-liter V-6 in the Audi A4. Zero-to-60 mph times are also lower by about the same ratio.
A Mercedes-Benz C300 does this, as do the Audi A4, BMW 328i, Cadillac CTS, Hyundai Genesis and Infiniti G37. These all cost about the same as the Lincoln, yet they're also much more than just gussied-up family sedans.
That would be 20 more than the last BMW 328i we tested (a 2010 MY) -- the car it's most desperately chasing.
Infiniti‘s entry-level G25 sedan will go on sale this in October with a starting price of $31,825, $1325 less than a BMW 328i. An all-wheel drive G25x will start at $34,825. In between the two will be a G25 Journey, priced at $33,225.
Potential similarly-priced competitors for the 929 include the Lexus ES300, the Volvo 960, the Audi A6, BMW 328i or 523i, Mercedes C200 Citroen XM or the top-spec Saab 9000s.
A 999cc turbo petrol that, with 125PS, boasts a higher specific output (that's output per cc) than even the new BMW 328i.
It may remind some of a BMW 328i, which is not a bad image to conjure up. However, despite the new design, there's considerable wind noise at highway speeds, and the power sunroof creates a lot of wind noise when opened.
