As soon as this engine was introduced, Briggs Cunningham chose to use the Chrysler OHV V8 in some models of his automobiles designed as race cars for international motor sports.
That was key because the built VR6 was making over 400hp. It featured EIP pistons, Cunningham chromoly rods, ARP hardware and a custom intake manifold with individual velocity stacks to compensate for runner length.
But Moss wasn't the first away for a change, because the grid was arranged according to engine size, and there were the Cunningham C-4Rs with their 5.
