Since the merger between Daimler Benz and Chrysler mid 1998 there has been a steady increase in vehicles with the Chrysler and Jeep nameplate coming into the Australian car market.
My truck was built by the "old" Chrysler Corporation right at the time Daimler Benz took over. Daimler changed things up, and I would not be inclined to buy anything they built under the Chrysler banner.
Perhaps that's due to cost rationalization. Long ago, Rudi Ulenhaut confided that Daimler Benz lost money on each Gullwing sold, but he had not included the value of publicity and could not have known how long its reputation would endure.
It is not true that it is based on E- class. It is a clone between C and E. Apart from Glasgow Mercedes, the service is appalling. If they don't make reliable cars, the least Daimler Benz could do is to listen to customers.
Daimler Benz bought Chrysler in the 1998 "Merger of Equals". Many have said that the quality was lacking for several years following the merger, but quality is now much improved and at a high standard.
