1970 Datsun 240Z -- A Japanese Car You Want To Own
The 1970 Datsun 240Z wasn't the first Japanese car sold in America, but it was the first widely known -- and loved -- model to wear an Asian nameplate.

("The Datsun pickup of '59 was a lightweight hauler that had one speed - slow," says Bob Hagin. Matt Hagin says the new supercharged Nissan Frontier isn't his father's Datsun.) ...

^ The Datsun 240Z of 1972 was a very similar colour. I'd say it is a reference to the Z's past. But I daresay it also comes in yellow, blue, etc. Hopefully not silver though.

The company formerly marketed vehicles under the 'Datsun' brand and is the third largest producers of well-known-cars, including the Infiniti luxury brand. Its main offices are located in Chûô, Tokyo.

This yoogly thing corners almost as good as my 1970 Mullholland-race-suspension-equipped Datsun 240Z, and, although it definitely doesn't meet my Datsun's O-ring-headed, Crown-turbocharged, acceleration times, ...

Once upon a time, way back in 1959, a company called Datsun imported a funny-looking pickup truck with a small bed and tiny engine, giving birth to the compact pickup market in the U.S. After a slow start, the market grew, as did the competition.

The original Datsun 240Z first sold in the States in 1969 as a 1970 model. The Z shape was a departure from sports cars of the day, and its powerful 150-horsepower 2.

Aesthetically, the Nissan GT-R is neither a modernized E-Type nor a resurrection of the earliest Z cars, way back when they wore the Datsun badge.

DAT later became Datsun (son of DAT) in 1931 and Datsuns went on to become the first mass-produced vehicles in Japan. Americans got their first look at the Datsun in 1958 - the 1200 Sedan.

The original 240Z was a defining car for Nissan (then Datsun), and a beacon of sports car hope during the largely hopeless early 1970s. Unfortunately, it evolved - or, more accurately, devolved - into the tasteless and disco-y 280ZX and 300ZX.

I personally don't like its V8 engine (look at my username), but it's still an epic car and a lot of fun - unlike the Playstation Datsun. Heck, the GTR is not even as much fun as an old Datsun 240Z... something wrong there.

We watch with amusement as a rusted-out Datsun 120Y streaks past, only to be seen several minutes later with the Plod having a word.

The Nissan Z badge first appeared in 1969 on the 240Z (in those days it was a Datsun), which went on to become a best seller around the world. Since then, there have been some good, and some pretty ordinary, Z cars.

No longer a "compact" pickup truck (a category Nissan's predecessor, Datsun, created on this continent), the Frontier is a "mid-size" pickup, ...

He attributes his performance perspective to time spent with his car-crazy roommate, Erik Duffus, who owns several cars, including a pristine E30 M3 and a 1970 Datsun 240Z with a 350 Chevy V8.

The high of the early '70s--when Datsun dealers briefly sold the 2000 Roadster, 240Z, 510 and 1200 simultaneously and had waiting lists months long--was followed by a series of dips and surges in the form of the 610, 710 and F10.

The AZEAL recalls previous small, high-performance coupes and sedans like the original Datsun 510 and Sentra SE-R - where compact dimensions and short front and rear overhangs were essential to the design and the vehicles' nimble performance.

A few of my favorite cars: 69 Plymouth Satellite Sebring (I owned a Satellite) Porsche 356, the original Datsun 240 Z, Audi TT, BMW 507, and also, I drive a VW--I think the best designed cars for the money.

The hand-stitched panels on the top of the dashboard, are impressive, and the overall build seems good. However, the air-con controls look cheap; some of the plastic trim looks tacky; and, the key looks like something from a 1970s Datsun.
