The highlight was a runner-up finish in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, the highest finish by an American in the event's history.
Indeed the Mazda2 has Ford to thank for its original production - originally it was sold as a small minivan with its origins taken from the Ford Festiva.
It was front wheel drive with three doors, and was a sister model to the Ford Festiva. Such relationship between models of Mazda and Ford was common throughout the 90's. For example, the 323 is rebadged to Ford Laser.
