The 2003 Honda CR-V 4WD EX we tried for a week is virtually unchanged from the new-for-2002 version, and proves the point that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And even with gas back to two bucks and change per gallon, I’m tired of pouring my hard-earned money into my SUV’s jumbo-sized gas tank. Honda made the all-new 2007 Honda CR-V for me. Whether I want it or not is another question.
Much more recently other makers have started offering conceptually similar systems. The Honda CR-V, the 1999 VW Golf 4Motion and its derivatives such as the Audi TT now use a system that is conceptually similar.
