The back seat is extremely comfortable for two, but whoever has to ride in the middle back there for a long trip is going to feel it the next day. The Jaguar S-Type sedan is better left as a four-seater.

This Mustang is based on a modified version of the platform that underpins the Lincoln LS and Jaguar S-Type luxury cars, albeit with some cost-trimming features such as live-axle rear suspension.

2-liter V8, slightly revised from the powerplant found in the Jaguar S-Type 4.2, and the obvious choice for our competition, the supercharged version of the 4.2 found in the XJR.

We found that the car's ride and handling reminded us much more of the SVT Contour than, say, the Jaguar S-type, which many people no doubt consider the real entry-level Jaguar.

Right off the bat, you'll find the Thunderbird is not unlike a Lincoln LS in its interior space, handling and road manners. And it throws a bit of Jaguar S-type performance and ride into the mix too.

As it comes from Ford, this is obviously set up for a transversely mounted front wheel drive application, so fitting it in the Morgan required a special bell housing to mate it to a Jaguar S-Type gearbox, ...

The V6 is much more in the Jaguar S-Type mould and altogether closer in performance and general ambience than you might think. In fact I would go so far as to say that In some respects it is better - more of which later.
