Chrysler currently offers six models that get better than 28 miles-per-gallon on the highway: Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler Sebring Convertible, Dodge Avenger, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot and Dodge Caliber.
But Jeep engineers, being Jeep engineers, devised a way to take an otherwise urban-oriented vehicle-the same chassis underpins the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass-and make it not just capable in inclement weather conditions but actually Trail Rated.
And the Captiva is not that much more expensive than the Jeep Compass, which is a far less endearing vehicle. Moreover, the price I have quoted is for the hybrid automatic model with Tiptronic-style sequential changing.
