Kia Optima is based on the platform of the current Hyundai Sonata and shares the Sonata's engine and suspension layout; if you like one, you'll no doubt like the other.
The Kia Optima SX Turbo is wonderful; I can't think of any area in which it disappoints. It is also simply gorgeous to look at. There is enough legroom in front and rear to easily accommodate passengers over six feet tall, and its trunk is very large.
The Kia Optima is more appealing than ever as an alternative to mid-size stalwarts like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Kia Optima is a five-passenger, front-drive, mid-size sedan, so it has a lot of competition.
The Kia Optima is in fact, not your average midsized sedan. In retrospect, I found the car to be much more than I expected it to be. Never when I drove it did I feel like I was driving anything but both a sporty AND luxurious car.
The Kia Optima passed our usability tests with flying colors. At 15.4 cubic feet, the Optima's well-shaped trunk is fairly capacious and our reverse-facing baby seat still left enough room for a 5-foot-10 front passenger when installed in back.
The Kia Optima has a panoramic sunroof with a thin, roller-style sunshade. My camera is pointed directly at the sun in this shot. Keen readers will note that they cannot see our local star.
This Kia Optima may be inexpensive but it is far from cheap. The interior could pass for a car of considerably higher price. The fit and finish is good and the cabin space generous. Kia says the interior is larger than the Camry, Accord and Altima.

Problem is that the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Optima with the 274hp turbo, is larger, has more horsepower and better fuel mileage for less than the base price, and fully loaded is significantly less than this non-turbo model.

It's sold in a variety of markets worldwide where it's also known as the Carens or, in Australia, as the Rondo 7. It's based on the platform of the Kia Magentis sedan (which now morphs into the Kia Optima in Canada for 2011).
