In 1971, AMG was preparing for its racing debut in the 24-hour endurance race at Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The AMG team had prepared a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.9 for the event.
The hood has twin power bulges ala classic Mercedes 300SL. The flanks are perfectly smooth except for some deeply flared wheel wells. There are new front and rear aprons and a sculptured rocker panel and the tail lights are huge and all Mercedes.
