For the C220 CDI, Mercedes claims that the torque-converter auto is faster than the manual to 62mph, at 8.1sec rather than 8.4sec. Certainly, there's a brisk step-off should you want it, and at the test track we hit 60mph in 8.2sec.
This was clearly designed to fire a shot across the bow the recently introduced Hyundai Sonata, which has the attractive curves of a smaller Mercedes CLS or VW CC and is priced starting under $20,000.
Car and Driver reports that "Mercedes claims the 4050-pound [Mercedes-Benz] GLK350 can hit 60 from a standstill in 6.5 seconds, which seems plausible" based on their test drives of this new compact SUV. MyRide.
