BMW to Supply Saab With Turbocharged 4-Cylinder Engines; But for What Car?
Saab's flagship luxury car, the 9-5, is the most mainstream Saab ever built, but it is in every way a Saab.
Saab, acquired by GM a while back, and pretty much steadily underperforming since has been hanging by a thread for at least 9 months, and now things have gotten even worse.
Saab is a Swedish car manufacturer and currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors.
It is the exclusive automobile royal warrant holder as appointed by the king of Sweden.
The SAAB is a quick car when equiped with the Turbo. HO agrees that he is pleased with the car's acceleration but that it has "alot of torque steer." OH likes his car's handling, generally. However, he is not pleased with his Saab's ride qualities.
Actually, there was another AWD Saab recently. The North American market only Saab 9-2X was based upon the Subaru Impreza with some minor modifications. This car is also known as the Saabaru.

The Saab 9-3 has been completely redesigned for 2003. Gone is the traditional hatchback style and in is a sleek sedan layout.
The Saab 9-2X's advanced full-time all-wheel-drive and boxer four cylinder engines are firsts in Saab's history.
The Saab 9-3 Sport-Combi comes as standard with the 2.0 L i-4 engine and a six-speed manual, but as my tester carried the Aero Touring package, it was equipped with the larger 2.8 L V-6 turbo engine which produces 250 hp.
The 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero's ride is a bit firmer than that of its German competitors (more so if you engage the DriveSense sport mode), but its variable dampers work to mitigate the nastier bumps and prevent harshness.

This Saab intercooler is a reverse flow design. If you follow the path of the tubes you can see that the flow capacity of this core is the same as if the core was sliced longways into two and joined end to end - making it a very narrow, long design.
The outdated Saab seemed woefully overpriced, even in this performance-oriented trim level. Dealer discounts may help ease some of the sticker shock, but we can't guarantee they'll be enough to beat out the A4.
