Purchased the Automatic S sedan after I lost my 2003 Saturn Ion 2. I got it for a great deal but felt the price could have been a little lower for a base model. Drives very smooth but could use a little more horsepower.
It is available as both a coupe and sedan and is based upon the GM Delta platform, along with the Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac G5, Saturn ION, Astra (Opel, Vauxhall, Holden, and Saturn marques), and the Opel Zafira (a seven seat van).
I can compare this with some of my previous cars, VW GTI, Audi A4, Saturn ION, etc... and the Focus handles VERY good for its price. There is lots of steering feedback and not over-boosted assist... very European.
In the meantime there will be a new Pontiac Grand Prix (and this one won't wear all that lower body cladding), plus the Saturn Ion, a redesigned Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire with new Ecotech engines, the new Saab 9-3 and Cadillac XLR.
Some may say that the new Saturn Astra is a big improvement over its predecessor, the Saturn Ion. We say, how could it not be?

At least the Cobalt Coupe's a tastier morsel than the Saturn Ion, with which it shares its mechanical underpinnings.
It feels more European than Japanese or American in demeanor and a little more refined than, say, the Saturn Ion and Dodge Neon. A choice of body styles and running gear make the Focus appealing for many different types of people.
