Shelby American sued Superformance after Superformance had developed and begun production of the Superformance Brock Coupe. Eventually, the litigation was settled, though the terms of the settlement (if any) have never been released to the public.
According to John Luft, president of Shelby American Inc., the New York International Show holds a special place in the hearts of Shelby.
He had won the race in 1959, driving an Aston Martin, and his Shelby American team had competed fiercely against - but not defeated - Ferrari.
