To be honest, I have noticed this as well, however I am basing it on my previous VW Bora 1.9tdi 115. To be fair, the A6 is a much bigger car, and so I expected some difference. I would get the fuel filter changed and see what difference that makes.
The underdog in VW's range of "tunable" cars must be the VW Bora, which is considered by most to be more like a workhorse in the company car business than a Fast & Furious alike streetcar.

I know the feeling. I did such a journey yesterday morning, in atrocious conditions, to pick up something I'd left at home. But I wouldn't have bothered doing it in a VW Bora.
So instead of competing with Hyundai Elantras, KIA Mentors, Skoda Fabias and Suzuki Lianas it’s up against Ford Focuses, Mazda 3s, SEAT Toledos, Toyota Corollas and VW Boras, and at that level it doesn’t quite make it.
