Used my 21 year old VW golf GTi for the week (after replacing the power steering rack and pump at the weekend).
When this hot hatchback hits the market its major competitors will be the venerable VW Golf GTI and the Mini Cooper S.
Compared to its archrival, the VW Golf GTI, the new MPS looks good. The designers have found ways to enhance and accentuate the curves of the standard car; something they weren’t very successful at with its predecessor.
The S3 is no better to drive than its more affordable cousin, the VW Golf GTi and dynamically the rest of the range doesn't match up to the likes of the Focus, Golf or BMW 1 series.
I'm a Spanish rallye racer and, amongst others I own a VW Golf GTI (8v - 115CV), and even though it's not the best car I have driven/owned, nobody that has a minimum idea about cars, can say that is a boring car.

It sounds possible to me - would I want it - no - I owned a VW Golf GTI - nice car new, as it got older there wasn't anything that went wrong with it that didn't require taking out a second mortgage on the house to pay the bill.
The most expensive car I to operate I have ever owned in my 41 years of driving and one of the most enjoyable at the same time was a 2001 VW Golf GTI with the VR6. Loved the car but hated the expense of keeping it fixed.
