I bought a used one, having previously owned an expensive VW Sharan (Galaxy). The Sharan was great to drive but incredibly unreliable. It cost me nearly £20,000 in servicing/repair bills during its lifetime. And the fuel consumption was dismal.
Comfortable and well constructed, the Galaxy is a sister car to the VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra.
Ford was a staggering 11 years late into this niche, fielding a Portuguese-built co-operative effort with the VW Group that yielded the original Galaxy, VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra. All these co-operative manufacturing deals have a similar trajectory.
The Alhambra was developed alongside the VW Sharan and, styling details apart, the two cars are more or less identical. Choosing between them comes down to the finer details of price and equipment, and which one you like the look, or image, of most.

As for the VW emblems, John disassembled them himself before rubbing them down, priming and painting them flat black. He also added a European VW Sharan antenna to the roof, bought from parts4euro.com ...
Because just about anything I write about the new SEAT Alhambra will almost equally apply to the new VW Sharan.
