Christened in honour of Fiat's Willys Jeep clone - produced between 1951 and 1987 and famous for trumpeting its arrival by driving the length of Africa in just over 11 days - the Campagnola is, even by Defender standards, as ugly as a box of frogs.

 


After the Second World War, Wilks used an army surplus Willys Jeep to get around his land and perform various agricultural tasks.

A direct descendent of the original Bantam Jeep (not Willys Jeep, as some would claim), which was developed from an Austin Seven, the latest Wrangler has for the first time in its civilian history acquired an oil-burner.

(And perhaps this is a good time to point out that the Willys Jeep came before the other brand leader Land Rover, which was only invented to replace the founding farmer's Jeep when it finally gave up the ghost.) ...

a prototype, only one example was built and the production vehicle differed significantly in many ways. Developed in 1946 by the Rover Motor Co., the Land Rover was intended to be an agricultural vehicle based on the successful wartime Willys Jeep.
