I think it has been a must for a vehicle to produced a power ouput of 700+ hp especially when it uses a more modern technology like v10 or v8.

Yamaha FZ8, £7,799
Bigger and heavier than the Aprilia, but a similar price and capacity. Its much better everyday practicality, the familiarity of the badge and extensive dealer network will swing it for many.

Generally, the source of power for the electric motor has been batteries, but development in fuel cell technology has created several prototypes.

Yamaha: Diversion 600F
Suzuki: GSR 750
Yamaha brought along two new street bikes - the 800cc Fazer and the 600cc Diversion F. Neither bikes will write headlines, but both look like worthy choices for riders looking for capable all-rounders.

When Yamaha first revealed their R6 my first thought was "what are Honda going to come out with to rival this motorcycle?

"For the first time, a Yamaha-built engine is not under the hood of a SHO. Not to worry: Ford's 3.5-liter ‘EcoBoost’ V-6 makes 365 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 350 pound-feet of torque at 3500 rpm.

Much of the development work was done by Yamaha.
It uses direct injection, high lift inlet camshafts with titanium valves and a scavenge pump to return oil from the cylinder heads to the sump, ensuring a consistent oil supply.

Performance from the Yamaha Beams engine was peaky, so the car was lethargic under the variable valve timing threshold. To make matters worse, the 5 speed tiptronic gearbox was total garbage.

Because Volvo has no history with V8s, it turned to Yamaha, which has a good relationship with Volvo's parent company, Ford, to develop a new engine compact enough to fit in the XC90's engine bay.

Powered by a special "Super-High Output (SHO)" 24-valve V6 (developed with Yamaha), it featured vastly improved performance.

4 litres and producing 311 horsepower, the new engine, developed in cooperation with Yamaha, is similar to the one used in the XC90 SUV, but in this application produces a bit more power with a slightly different voice: the S80 sounds quieter, ...

4-liter V8 built by Yamaha. The 311-horsepower V8 sounds like a Corvette engine when it first starts up then settles to a smooth idle. It's smooth and creamy when cruising and very responsive. At high speeds the S80 V8 is quiet and smooth.

We've had a lot of Car vs Bike videos lately and, to be frank, it isn't even close to enough. There are so many factors at play, we could watch these things all day.

I was in college when the first Ford Taurus SHO came out with the Yamaha-built V-6. Back in the day before the Internet became a big funnel of information and porn, I remember reading all the car-buff mags and drooling over its awesome 220-horsepower.

You could wake them up by gunning the Yamaha-built, 311-hp, 4.4-liter V-8, a sweet engine that deserved wider play than in just the XC90.

4-liter V8 developed to Volvo specifications by Yamaha, the Japanese motorcycle builder and auto engine specialist. The V8 generates 311 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, with standard all-wheel drive.

4-liter V8 engine designed by Volvo and built by Yamaha in Japan. The plant, set sideways in the engine bay, conforms to a narrow-angle vee with only 60 degrees between cylinder banks.

Gone is the undersized turbo five, in favor of a fine new straight six (3.2 liters, 235 bhp) and the excellent Yamaha V8 from the XC90 (4.4 liters, 311 bhp).

Kimura then worked for Yamaha in its F1 division. He brings that expertise back to his friend and the IS F's naturally aspirated engine. Designed and made by Yamaha, the aluminum heads feature titanium valves on the intake side and hollow camshafts.

And unlike the Fiesta, the Yamaha-designed 1.25-litre that was available in the old Fiesta but not the new is now the base engine in the Mazda2. It IS more expensive to produce, but it is also a much better engine in its size range.

Volvo didn't develop the engine, nor did Ford, but Ford remembered where nearly a decade ago it went for a fine V8 for the Taurus SHO and so it called again on Yamaha in Japan.

Complementing that, and moving the car further upmarket to compete against top X5, Range Rovers, Mercedes MLs and GLs and Porsche Cayennes is a 315PS Yamaha-developed narrow-angle all-alloy chain cam 4.4 litre V8.

Still think the V10 within the LF-A is just unbeatable in the old goose-bumbs quality... Yamaha did such a bloomin lovely job there! (pity it didnt have another 100bhp to give though!)

Recently updated for 2007, the XC90 range now includes a 315PS V8 power unit (developed jointly by Volvo and Yamaha), which gives this sizeable SUV sports-car-like performance to rival that of the BMW X5.
