Most of your job search communication will be by phone. Here's where you get to be a phone fan like your teenager.

Cold call a company and express an interest in investment. In return they may (and should if you sound legitimate) let you peruse their business plan. When you refuse to provide capital, ensure that you have a sound strategy to avert their advances.

Your Product Is Your Word: You should also be able to obtain new business on cold calls, without having a physical prototype of the product you're selling, where applicable, or a visual to further explain the product.

Cold calls may result in an interview--but you will have to be prepared for lots of rejections along the way. Networking, using referrals as an introduction, is less stressful and more productive.

This is important in the early stages of cold calling or when the call is very important. Later on, you will script most of your calls in your head. Do not read your script; your presentation should be natural.

One can also go and hand out résumés or Curriculum Vitae to prospective employers. Another recommended method of job hunting is cold calling or emailing companies that one desires to work for and inquire to whether there are any job vacancies.

If you aren't comfortable making these cold calls, then close your letter with something like: "I look forward to hearing from you soon." And remember to say, "Thank you for your consideration" or something to that effect (but don't be obsequious!).

You often will be given the names of companies and other individuals to contact. Or the person may offer to contact them on your behalf. Either way, you now have a warm call instead of a cold call into prime hiring companies in your target ...
